In spring, cobia migrate up the coast and are one of the most prized game fish. Spanish mackerel populate the bays and passes while red drum patrol the nearshore zone. In summer, king mackerel liven up as snapper and grouper move in. Tarpon can be seen rolling just off the beach. In addition to the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the region boasts four major rivers. The drinking water from artesian springs is some of the best tasting in the world.
